Simple explanation of the quotation marks 66 99
January 17, 2014 / by Marco / Categories : Humour, KidsMy son was completing his Grammar homework and all of a sudden he asked me “What are quotation marks?”. I looked at him for a few seconds thinking on how to best explain this and this I what I could come up with:
When you are writing a story and someone says something, like “Hello”, then you need to have the quotation marks between what they said. The quotation marks look like the number 66 at the front and 99 at the back. The smaller number goes at the front. Which one is smaller 66 or 99.
He replied, “66, I understand now.”
End of discussion.
The book explanation: Quotation Marks show the exact words someone says. They go before the speaker’s first word. They also go after the speaker’s last word and the end of the punctuation mark.
